Polaroid Kintsugi
The project explores the idea of improvement through destruction and examines the role of damage in the process of shaping our identity and the environment in which we exist. The project is rooted in the philosophy of Kintsugi, the Japanese art of ceramic restoration, which views damage not as a flaw but as evidence of lived experience that can become a source of a new form of beauty. Polaroid possesses an organic fragility: the emulsion is transferred to paper, breaks down in the process, and is restored with gold lacquer, undergoing processes reminiscent of erosion, healing, and renewal. The body, the landscape, and photography are united by a shared vulnerability to time, decay, and external influences. The project highlights the similarities between human experience and the continuous cycles of transformation in the surrounding world.
The project has been awarded in the Fine Art Photography Awards FAPA, 2026 (experimental 2nd place winner, professional category).
Проект исследует идею улучшения через разрушение и обращается к роли повреждений в процессе формирования личности и среды, в которой мы существуем. В основе проекта философия японского искусства реставрации керамики Кинцуги, рассматривающая повреждения не как недостатки, а как свидетельства прожитого опыта, которые могут стать источником новой формы красоты. Polaroid обладает органической хрупкостью: эмульсия переносится на бумагу, разрушается в процессе и реставрируется золотым лаком, проходя через процессы, напоминающие эрозию, заживление и обновление. Тело, ландшафт и фотографию объединяет общая уязвимость к времени, разрушению и внешнему воздействию. Проект подчеркивает сходство между человеческим опытом и непрерывными циклами преобразованиями окружающего мира.
