Liberation
This project began as a study of identity, but I became much more interested in the theme of “liberation as a process.” I decided to examine this phenomenon from different angles. Just as I free myself from other people’s ideas about me, these ideas can also free themselves from me. I gave them a semblance of will—perhaps they want to be rid of me as much as I want to be rid of them. I chose Polaroid on purpose—this photographic technique has long been associated with the stereotype of “square photos in white frames.” By manipulating the photo emulsion in various ways, I show that Polaroids do not have to be limited to that stereotype, just as my body does not have to conform to anyone’s expectations but my own.
Artworks from this project have been featured in exhibitions in Cologne and Astana, were shortlisted for the SPC Photo Awards (Germany), and won competitions organized by Has Sanat Gallery (Kazakhstan) and Analog Sparks (USA) in 2025. Some of the works have already been sold at the Astana Art Fair 2025 and on Saatchi Art.
Освобождение
Этот проект начинался как исследование идентичности, но затем тема “освобождения, как процесса” стала интересовать меня гораздо больше. Я решил рассмотреть само явление с разных сторон. Как я освобождаюсь от чужих представлений о себе, так и эти представления могут освобождаться от меня. Я наделил их подобием воли: быть может, они хотят отделаться от меня так же, как я от них? Polaroid выбран не случайно — за этой формой фотографической техники давно закреплён стереотип “квадратных фотографий в белой рамке”. Проделывая всевозможные манипуляции с фото-эмульсией, я стараюсь показать, что Polaroid не обязательно должен быть только таким, как и моё тело не обязано соответствовать чьим-то ожиданиям, кроме моих собственных.
Работы из этого проекта участвовали в выставках в Кёльне и Астане, прошли в шортлист конкурса SPC Photo Awards (Germany), а также победили в конкурсах галереи Has Sanat (Казахстан) и Analog Sparks (USA) 2025. Часть работ уже продана на Astana Art Fair 2025.
